An ICP filing check queries the MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) filing system to verify whether a domain has a valid ICP beian registration. Websites that provide Internet services from servers in mainland China must complete ICP filing; the check returns the filing number, sponsor name, and filing type.
Common uses include confirming a site's compliance status before launch, verifying that a third-party site is properly registered, and checking whether a domain's existing filing covers its current business scope. A missing or mismatched filing is a common cause of access issues for services hosted in mainland China.
Any website or app that operates Internet-facing services from servers located in mainland China must complete ICP filing. Sites hosted outside mainland China are not subject to this requirement.
ICP filing (备案) is the basic registration required for all commercial sites. An ICP license (经营性许可证) is an additional permit required for services that involve e-commerce, news, or other regulated activities.
After initial submission, the process typically takes 10–20 business days depending on the provincial authority. Cloud providers in China usually handle the submission on behalf of their customers.
Either the domain has not completed ICP registration, or it is registered under a different domain (e.g. the apex domain rather than a subdomain). Try the root domain if you queried a subdomain.
