What is a multi-node speed test

A speed test issues HTTP bulk downloads and uploads to your target server from multiple probe nodes worldwide, measuring the usable download and upload bandwidth (Mbps). Compared with a single local test, multi-node testing reflects the real speed differences users in different regions experience reaching the same resource.

Common uses include assessing how fast a site or download performs across regions, comparing the bandwidth of different CDNs or servers, and investigating why access is slow in certain regions. Point it at a download endpoint that supports Range requests for accurate results.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't the result match my local speed-test app?

This tool measures the bandwidth of the link from a probe node to your target server — the supply capacity of the server or CDN; a local app measures the link from your machine to a nearby test server. They measure different things, so differences are normal.

Why is upload much slower than download?

Most networks have far less upstream than downstream bandwidth, and upload testing is also limited by the node-to-target write capacity. If you only care about content delivery speed, use the download bandwidth.

What should I put in the target URL?

Enter the address of a downloadable file that supports HTTP Range requests and is large enough (such as a speed-test file on a CDN). A bare domain is auto-prefixed with https://, but if that address has no large file the measured bandwidth will be low.

What does a big difference between nodes mean?

It usually means access quality for that resource is uneven across regions, possibly due to limited CDN coverage or a long origin path. Combine it with multi-location ping and traceroute to investigate further.
